Michael was born June 3 1947 in Richmond Hills NY to Richard & Agnes (Quirk)Dinonno and grew up in Uniondale Long Island. H had four brothers; Richard, John, Andrew and Tommy. After graduation from High School Mike served in the US Army and fought in the Vietnam War from 1967- 1968.  Upon discharge from the service Mike began his career with Bell telephone, then NYNEX and Verizon communications. 
While serving in Vietnam the American Legion gave out names of local servicemen from the area and I started writing to him. We wrote to each other regularly. Upon his return to the states we met in person & our story began.
We married in 1970 & lived in Bayside NY. We had five children;
Michael (Kelly), Joseph  (Bethany), Brian (Jennifer),  Allison (Peter) & Timothy.  We were blessed with grandchildren; Timothy, Ava, Brian, Sophia, Luca & Leo and two godchildren Danny & Mila.  
Spending time with his family was the most important thing in his life. 
He loved the beach, swimming and scuba diving and worked at Jones Beach LI after retirement
We moved to Westbrook CT in 2019. He continued his love of people and spent his free time visiting & helping those in his neighborhood.
On the morning of January 17, 2026 Mike passed away at home, after a long hospitalization, surrounded by his family & faithful companion Clara. 
Mike, for 55 years you have been my everything, my heart, my soul and my forever love. I thank God everyday that he sent you to me. I will miss you dearly. Toni

Michael was fiercely protective of his daughter — as any great father is. But he must have recognized early on that I truly loved Allison, because once he saw that, he opened his heart to me with full trust and affection. From that moment on, he made me feel like I belonged — not as an outsider, but as someone who was already part of the family.

Michael was a wonderful father-in-law. He had a quiet, steady way of making people feel welcome and accepted. He was always reaching out to check in on us, genuinely wanting to know how we were doing. And every year, without fail, he came all the way to California to visit us — visits that meant more than he probably ever realized.

Those visits always had Michael’s signature touch. He was meticulous and loved order. Somehow, every trip included organizing the shed, fixing something around the house, or making sure things were just right. Looking back, that wasn’t really about organization — it was about care. That was his way of loving, of helping, of being present.

Michael was also a beautiful example of what it means to be a husband and a family man. His relationship with Toni was truly special — full of love, respect, and devotion. It quietly showed everyone around them what a true partnership looks like. Michael was a man you knew would always be in your corner, no matter what.

He was an incredibly proud father and a devoted grandfather. My kids absolutely adored him — and Toni as well. In fact, there were many moments when it felt like both of our children loved their grandparents even more than they loved us, which we used to joke about often. That kind of bond doesn’t happen by accident. It came from the warmth, patience, and unconditional love Michael gave so freely.

We will miss Michael dearly — his steadiness, his kindness, his presence. But his love does not leave us. It lives on in our memories, in the lessons he showed us, and in the love he gave so freely.

So when I first met Mike and Toni and for a few years after they were just Tim's Grandparents. It stayed that way for a while, we talked and were cordial but that was about it. I cared about them as Tim's Grandparent, but when Daniel and eventually Mila was born that all changed. All of a sudden, next thing I knew they were Daniel's Grandparents, and I couldn't say how much I appreciated that. As the years went by and they became Mila's Grandparents something changed, they weren't just Grandpa and Grandma, they were Mike and Toni my friends, and people I really admired and looked up to.

Every holiday they were there, every event they were there, every birthday they were there. Today, and for the rest of my life Mike is like a father to me and Toni a mother, my kids Grandparents, and they're as much a part of our lives as anyone we share blood with. So thank you Mike, thank you Toni, thank you for everything and I'm eternally grateful.
