Primo C. Carnabuci

Primo C. Carnabuci, of Old Saybrook, KIA and MIA of the Korea War. He was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Orsini) Carnabuci. Primo joined the U.S. Army on August 17, 1948, with the 8th Cavalry Regiment (1st Cavalry Division) and had taken up positions north and west of the town of Unsan in North Korea. During the night of 1-2 November 1950, the 8th Cavalry Regiment was attacked and overwhelmed by elements of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Forces. Private First Class Carnabuci along with 600 men were reported missing in action (MIA). Fifty-nine years later, Corporal Carnabuci, who was posthumously promoted to the rank of corporal, was found during gold-mining operations in North Korea. Corporal Carnabuci will be arriving home on May 10, 2011 at Bradley International Airport under Military, State and Local escort.

Primo is survived by his brother Dominic Carnabuci of Old Saybrook, along with cousins, nieces and nephews.

To tribute Primo, family and friends may visit the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd. Old Saybrook CT. Wednesday May 11, from 6pm to 8pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 12, at 11am at St. John Church, Main St. Old Saybrook. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Clinton, with full military honors.
