Rexford Hobart McCall, lifelong resident of Old Saybrook, Connecticut passed away on April 14,2024. He was 92. Born in Old Saybrook on October 8, 1931, he was the son of the late Royce F. and Almira (Kramer) McCall. Rexford attended Old Saybrook High School and was valedictorian of the class of 1950. From 1951 to 1953, Rexford enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Following his time in the armed forces, he pursued further education at the University of Connecticut, earning a bachelor's degree in history and government in 1957.
Rexford worked for the state of Connecticut Division of Revenues until his retirement in 1992. He was active in Old Saybrook political life, serving five years as the Planning Commission Chairman, six years as Board Selectman, two years as Chairman of the Republican Town Committee and Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for over twenty years. Aside from work, Rexford was an avid gardener, golfer, bike rider, reader and history buff.
Rexford is predeceased by his parents, his twin brother Royce F. McCall, his brother, Warren McCall, and his sisters, Jean Rabenold and Shirly Carter.
Rexford will be greatly missed by his sons, Jonathan McCall of Old Saybrook, Connecticut and Reid McCall of West Palm Beach Florida. He is also survived by his grandson, Connor McCall of Old Saybrook, Connecticut.
Calling hours will be held for Rexford on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 4pm till 7pm at Swan Funeral Home. The address is 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook, Connecticut 06475. A Funeral Mass will be held the following day, Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 10:30am, at the First Church of Christ in Saybrook, located at 566 Main Street. Old Saybrook, Connecticut 06475. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetary on Sheffield Street, Old Saybrook Connecticut.
