

Rose Marie Milardo, age 64 of Old Saybrook passed away July 7, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of Vincent Milardo Jr. , Rose was born in Pottstown PA on January 20, 1947 to the late Rudolph and Eleanor (Rosenbaum) Karkosak.
Rose was a teacher at the Robert H. Brown Middle School in Madison for six years, and at the Old Saybrook Middle School as the 8th grade science teacher for twenty years. Rose owned and operated The Animal Farm out of her home in Old Saybrook for thirteen years, making stuffed animals. She was very passionate about teaching and her family. Rose loved to garden, sew, and read mystery novels. She was very devoted to her family, and will be greatly missed.
Besides her husband of nearly 40 years, she is survived by three sons, Christopher Milardo and his wife Heather of Ivoryton, Gregory Milardo of Hayward CA, Andrew Milardo of Waterford CT and two daughters, Ellen Gehret and her husband Mark of Quincy MA and Margaret Milardo of Austin TX. She also leaves behind two brothers, Rudy Karkosak of Chadds Ford PA and James Karkosak and his wife Sharon of Yardley PA. Rose is also survived by two grandchildren, Nicholas Milardo and Rosalin Gehret.
Family and friends may visit the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd. Old Saybrook; Sunday July 10, from 3 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial for Rose will be celebrated on Monday July 11, at 1:30 pm at St. John’s Church on Main St. in Old Saybrook. Interment will be private.
