The world got a little quieter and a lot less witty on May 14, 2025, when Rudolph “Rudy” J. Leandri, age 86, passed away after a life well lived. Born on August 13, 1938, Rudy spent his life working hard, loving deeply and brightening the days of everyone lucky enough to know him.
Rudy met the love of his life, Marion, during their high school days, a love that blossomed in the hallways of Robert E. Fitch High School, where he graduated in 1956. Not long after, the two young sweethearts married at just 19 and 20 years old, beginning a lifelong adventure together for over six decades. Their marriage was a shining example that proves young love can last a lifetime, especially when built on laughter, loyalty and compromise.
A proud veteran, Rudy served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960 as part of the Military Police. He made sure everyone stayed in line while likely slipping in a wisecrack or two, just to keep it interesting. He returned home with discipline in his stride and a soft spot in his heart, especially for his one love and new bride, Marion.
After the military, Rudy settled into the role he cherished most: being a proud father to Maria, Rudy, and Randy. He coached their baseball and football teams with heart and humor, never missing a chance to cheer them on from the sidelines, the stands, or the backyard. His kids always knew he was their biggest fan.
At home, Rudy was a true Renaissance man, equally skilled with a wrench, a joke, a football, or a life lesson. Whatever the task, he handled it with confidence, creativity, and a smile. He lived a life full of laughter, love, and just the right blend of ingenuity and charm. A true people person, he could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, a gift that served him well throughout his career in sales. His quick wit and warm presence could light up any room, usually leaving everyone smiling or laughing by the time he was through.
In his later years, Rudy found great joy in the kitchen, whipping up hearty meals, perfecting his sauces, and feeding the people he loved. He cooked with the same care and creativity he brought to everything else in life, generously, passionately, and with just a little extra garlic.
He was a devoted coach, a proud father, and a grandfather who could always be counted on for encouragement and a well-timed corny joke. With a knack for tinkering, a heart full of mischief, and a corny joke always at the ready. Rudy leaves this world with a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable stories.
He will be deeply missed by his soul mate, Marion; his daughter, Maria Douglas; and his sons, Rudy II and Randy Leandri. Rudy also leaves behind five grandchildren, Rudy Leandri III, Tristan and Jeremy Douglas, and Alyssa and Kyle Leandri, along with his great-granddaughter, Lyrica Leandri. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Colin Douglas, and daughters-in-law, Barbara Leandri and Thea Phillips. He is predeceased by his granddaughter, Nicole Leandri, who no doubt welcomed him with a warm hug and maybe a playful eye-roll at one of his jokes.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Rudy in the most fitting way possible: share a good meal with someone you love, try to fix what’s broken and don’t forget to make someone smile.
