

Old Town - Bernard A. Lucas, Sr., 89, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital with his family by his side on October 9, 2017. He was born on April 23, 1928 in Orono, the son of Walter and Mary (Martin) Lucas. He was educated at St. Mary's Catholic School in Orono and was employed at the University of Maine until his retirement in 1991. Bernie Sr. was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening. He was a member of the Hidden Meadows Golf Course in Old Town.
He is survived by his two loving sons, Bernie and his wife Cathy of Old Town; David and his wife Rhonda of Orono; two sisters Mae Ranco and Thelma Nevells, a special grandson and granddaughter Kent of Orono and Holly of Texas; many nieces, nephews and cousins; two special sister-in-laws Corda LaFlamme of Old Town and Ruthie Lucas of Bradley. He leaves behind two special dogs Katy and Wynter. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Joan; seven brothers; Wilbur, Neally, Walter, Charles, Jerry, Frank, Kenneth "Choppy" Lucas; and five sisters Verna "Peewee" Beaulieu, Virginia Dyer, Bernice Gibbons, Phyllis Adams and Gertude Nevells.
He will be fondly remembered in the hearts of all that knew him and forever missed. A special thank you to the sixth floor Comfort Care staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, especially the CNAs.
There will be no visiting hours or funeral service. A private burial will be held by the family at a later date.
