OLD TOWN—Edna Jean (Reich) Barbee Bemis, 82, died peacefully at a Penobscot Nursing Home December 16, 2012 following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born November 23, 1930 in Sault Ste. Marie , MI a daughter of Albert W. and Ida May (Cryderman) Reich.
Edna graduated from Sault Ste. Marie High School class of 1948. She resided in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and met and married Air Force radioman Clifton Bemis. They built a wonderful life together, moving every 3-4 years as the military called until Clif’s retirement from the US Navy in 1975. Edna was employed at the Orono Burger King where she enjoyed her 21 years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting afghans and other gifts for her family and friends. She will be loved and missed dearly.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years Clifton V. Bemis, Jr of Old Town; two daughters Linda Barbee-Swan and her husband Mark of Bangor, Jane (Barbee) Small and her husband William of Ellsworth; two sons Dennis Bemis and his wife Kim of Milford and Vincent Bemis and his wife Val of Rockport; grandchildren Johnathan Bemis and his wife Kristin of Hampden, Sarah Bemis of Milford, Vanessa Bemis of Rockport and Violet Bemis of Rockport; great grandchildren Cameron, Zachary, and Jacob; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband James Eugene Barbee; a daughter Diane May Barbee; her parents, a brother Lester Leonard Reich, and a sister Mildred Bernice (Reich) Bedford.
