

Old Town and Beech Hill Pond - George E. Deshane, 87, died peacefully August 20, 2017 at his home with family by his side. He was born April 17, 1930 in East Millinocket a son of Joseph and Clara (Landry) Deshane.
George was a 1947 graduate of Old Town High School where he lettered in Football and Baseball. He served in the US Navy for four years and then began a 30 year employment at the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad where he retired as a Traffic Agent in 1990. He married his sweetheart Ruth (Brooks) in 1951. His passion for baseball continued on in his coaching teams for Old Town Little League, as well as the Old Town Little League All-Star team of 1969. He was a member of the Old Town Elks BPOE #1287 and a proud lifetime member of the Old Town Knights of Columbus. He also served as Assistant Scout Master of Troop 74 of Old Town. Following his retirement, George and Ruth wintered in Ft. Pierce, FL, and summered at his beloved camp at Beech Hill Pond. George was fortunate to enjoy his retirement and he found great pleasure traveling with Ruth, playing cards, and golf.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Deshane; four children Terry Nazar and her husband Massoud, Tim Deshane and his wife Denise, Tom Deshane and his wife Holly, and Joan Bouchard and her husband Joe; five grandchildren Shawn Deshane, Jason Deshane, Keith Deshane and his wife Dinah, Cory Deshane and his wife Carlie; Nikki Brissette and her husband Chris; four great grandchildren Landon and Avery Deshane, Isla Deshane, and Brooke Brissette; three step-grandchildren Matt Bouchard and family, Ben Bouchard, and Sam Bouchard; sister Pauline Brooks, many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and 8 siblings Henry, Vena Daigle, Wilfred, Raymond, Wallace, Cecile Johnson DiCesare, and infants Dorothy and Yvonne.
A time of celebration of George's life will be conducted 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24 at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St Old Town where members of the Knights of Columbus will recite prayers at 7:30 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25 at Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church, Old Town, with Father Bill Labbe officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. All are invited to the Parish Hall for a light luncheon and continued fellowship.
