He proudly served in the US Army during Korea and was a member of the American Legion. He was employed as a shipping manager at Eastern Fine Paper for many years and at the University of Maine. He was an avid cribbage player, and really enjoyed keeping his property looking good, from mowing the lawn meticulously or removing rocks and making rock walls, his yard always looked good. He enjoyed gardening and putting up firewood. He was a member of the Elks and Knights of Columbus. He was proud that over his lifetime, he had donated over 175 pints of blood for the American Red Cross Blood drives. He loved his bird Sammy.
Surviving are his loving wife Annette Stover, daughter Debra Cote Hatch and fiancé Rodney, grandchildren Daniel Hatch and fiancé Jessica, Ian, Ashley and Anna and great grandsons Kemper and the apple of Lester’s eye, Garrett; sisters Bernice Curtis (Fernald), Joyce Stallings, Betty Anne Riva (Francis), Linda Deshane (William), Donna Hersey (Al); brothers Donald Cote, Francis Cote (Jeannie); sister in law Theresa Cote and many nieces and nephews and a special friend Don Madden. In addition to his parents, Lester is predeceased by his son Daniel Cote, brothers Wallace, Robert and George Cote, sisters Rita Spiess and Theresa Toussaint.
Les’s death could be a time of reflection and tremendous personal growth for all individuals involved or not. If you know of anyone suffering from mental illness or substance abuse, please seek the appropriate help.
May the God of your understanding hold you in his loving arms and whisper to you that it wasn’t your fault.
A memorial service will be conducted 10AM Saturday at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St. Old Town. A reception will follow at the Holy Family Parish Hall. Spring interment with military honors will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
