
OLD TOWN - Melvin Burke, 75, passed away August 30, 2010. Born April 1, 1935 in Central City, PA. Professor emeritus from the University of Maine, Orono, Department of Economics, his passion for teaching and learning was always evident. Friend, teacher, author, scholar, and fighter for justice, his passions included international travel, fishing, nature, music, dance, and he embraced those from every walk of life. He is survived by his wife June Burke, daughter April Burke, Margie Malone, Randy, Maria, and Aisha Montano-Gutierrez, as well as other cousins. He was a friend to many, including Pamela Bell. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Old Town Fire and Rescue 150 Brunswick St., Old Town, ME 04468 or to the Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine or the Veterans for Peace Bangor Chapter: both are located at 170 Park St., Bangor, ME 04401-5024.
