

Old Town – Verlyn (Ben) B. Bell Sr., 86, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2023, after a period of declining health. Verlyn was born in Old Town on July 23, 1937, the son of Asa and Mariam (Grangel) Bell.
Verlyn grew up in Old Town and attended Old Town Schools. Following school, Verlyn enlisted in the Army. After three years with the Army, he transferred to the Army Reserves and retired after 27 years of serving his country. In addition to the Army, Verlyn worked at the Old Town Mill for 30 years, retiring in 1999.
In his spare time he enjoyed cooking, spending time with family, cutting wood and “patrolling” around the lake seeing friends. Verlyn was a part of American Legion Post 75 in Old Town.
Verlyn is survived by his wife of 65 years, Judith (Johnson) Bell; his children Laurie Guay and husband Daniel, Valerie Ahearn and husband George, Verlyn Bell Jr. and fiancée Joann, Corey Bell and wife Barbara; Michelle Hesseltine and husband Scott and Stacey and wife Kimberly; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and his sister, Gail Bell. He was predeceased by an infant son, Verlyn Edward Bell; three sisters, Alegra Thibodeau, Daphne Bell and Waverly Withers and a brother, Durwood Bell.
A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, September 25, 2023 at 10AM at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Eddington.
