Old Town – Warren D. Rand, Jr. – 82, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2011 at his home. He was born in Old Town, on Dec. 16, 1928, the son of Warren, Sr. and Madeline (Lenfest) Rand.
The most important part of Warren’s life was his wife and family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, rarely missing one of the grandchildren's many activities. He thoroughly enjoyed his time either at school activities, basketball court, ball fields or hockey rinks watching the kids with pride. Warren graduated from Old Town High School in 1947. From 1950 – 1952, Warren proudly served his country in the United States Army. After returning home from his involvement with the Korean War, he always stayed close to his military roots, and you could always expect to see him participating in the 4th of July and Veterans Day parade. Warren was the type of man who never had a negative thing to say about anyone or anything. Warren was a very hard working, honest man, and was very passionate and active in his faith as a member of the United Baptist Church of Old Town where he was recently honored as being the longest attending member of the church. Warren worked for many years as a maintenance supervisor before he retired from the James River Company in 1992. After his retirement, He and Norma opened their home and heart’s sharing their love of kids and fostering children. Warren was one of the original coaches for the Old Town Little League in the first years of its existence, and he continued to coach throughout the years when his grandchildren were involved. He also volunteered his time for Meals on Wheels and he loved watching sports, especially when the Red Sox or Patriots were playing.
