Betty M. Cooper, born on December 28, 1925 to Walter and Mildred Bertlshofer, died peacefully on July 26, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was an accomplished pianist and singer, and she sang with Tommy Dorsey’s Band during the Big Band Era. Betty received her Bachelor’s Degree from Freed Hardeman University and taught third grade at St. Paul’s Catholic School in Whitehaven for 28 years, while also leading the children’s choir. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, G.F. Cooper; two daughters, Lorna Carlock and Merry Carole Falke; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and her brother, Rodney Bertlshofer of Arizona. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 30, at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch, and the family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s name may be made to St. Paul’s Catholic School, 1425 East Shelby Drive, Memphis, TN 38116.
