Betty Ann Hall

Betty was born on August 23,1934 to Glover and Lillie Spears in Pontotoc County, Mississippi. She graduated from Hurricane High School in 1952 and shortly thereafter moved to Memphis, Tennessee to begin her first job as an AT&T long distance telephone operator (1952-1959). After moving to Memphis, she met and married her forever sweetheart, Dickie Gordon Hall.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Betty’s greatest joy was her family. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, knitting and crafts, many items of which she donated to MIFA and other organizations. She began taking piano lessons in the third grade at her school and played for church services starting at age 12 when her father led the singing. She accompanied for his quartet throughout her teenage years. As of late she still enjoyed playing hymns, knitting and working puzzles.

For many years Betty taught third grade Sunday School at Hickory Hills Baptist Church and later at Kensington Baptist Church. After moving to DeSoto County she and her husband became faithful members of First Baptist Church of Olive Branch.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Dick Hall of Olive Branch, MS; her daughters Sheila Hall of Cordova, TN and Jennifer Rushton (Lee) of Southaven, MS; her sister, Linda Owen (late J.W.) of Ecru, MS; grandchildren Jason McClain (Claire) of Nashville, TN, Kelli Nikel (Randy) of Rogers, AR and Caleb Rushton of Philadelphia, PA; and many relatives and dear friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Glover and Lillie Spears and daughter, Sharon Parrish.

A memorial service will be held February 14, 2026 with visitation from 12:00-1:00 p.m. and service at 1:00 p.m. at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum Road, Olive Branch, Mississippi 38654
