James Cary Gilbert

James Cary Gilbert, 52, of Southaven, MS, passed away Friday, May 3, 2019 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. Mr. Gilbert was a graduate of Temple Baptist School class of 1985. An avid pool player, he played all over the U.S. including tournaments in Las Vegas. For many years, Mr. Gilbert was the best pool player in the Memphis area. In addition to pool, Mr. Gilbert loved singing karaoke. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Gilbert, his grandson, Liam Churchill, and close family friend, Harold Bettis. Mr. Gilbert is survived by his daughter, Brianna Churchill (Cody), his father, J.C. Gilbert, one brother, David Gilbert (Sharon), and three grandchildren, Aubrey Churchill, Forrest Churchill and Rhett Churchill. Survivors also include two nieces, Kristen Gilbert and Kimberly Gilbert and the mother of his daughter, Stephanie Greenwood. The family will receive friends Monday, May 6, 2019 from 5-7pm and the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 2pm, all at Brantley Funeral Home of Olive Branch. Interment will follow in Blocker Cemetery.
