Karen Washington was 70 years old. She was born in Holly Springs, Ms. to Dred and Ella Walls on August 25th 1951. She accepted Christ at an early age. She graduated from Mississippi Valley State University where she met her husband James and they were married on April 14, 1973. They moved to New Orleans and received her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She worked in the New Orleans Public School System for 15 years and retired around 2013. In 2014, She moved back to her birth home, Holly Springs, with her husband James Washington. Missing her passion for teaching, she took on work as a substitute teacher and taught elementary school until finally retiring in 2019. Karen was in the sorority Sigma Gamma Rho graduate chapter.
She loved to cook. The only thing she loved more than cooking was to hear how good her cooking was. She loved to entertain and have her family and friends over for holidays. She had the most infectious laugh and the best sense of humor. She could light up any room. She also loved teaching her students. She loved to discuss and debate current events
She is survived by her husband James, daughter Sonja, brother Lechers Walls (Charleams), sisters Marion Bradford (William), Sweetie White Memphis, Tn, Christine Watson Memphis Tn, and Maggie Payne (Rosevelt) Oswego, Il, cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lora (Donald), Doris (Sammie), and brothers Dred (Vivian) and Willie Echols.
