

Kevin Dewayne “Hoss” Durrett, 48, of Byhalia, MS passed away on January 3, 2026. Hoss was born on March 25, 1977, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Memphis, TN to the late Doug Durrett and Sandra Battles Smith. He worked for Sunbelt Rentals, but he was best known for his work doing home improvements. In his free time, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and coaching. He loved our country and was a Patriot. He started the Mississippi chapter of MAC (motorcycle awareness campaign) to bring awareness of motorcycles on the roads and the rider’s safety with “look twice, save a life”. He was also a member of UCAP (Unified Christian American Patriots), which is an organization that trains people in gun safety and how to properly defend themselves. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donny Smith. Hoss is survived by his significant other, April Michelle Ford; children: Stephen Christopher Durrett (Jessica), Kevin Austin Durrett (Kaitlyn), Kaylin Danielle Durrett, Avery Chase Harvey, Jacob Leon Durrett, Jace Allen Durrett, and Jacob and Jace’s sister, Hannah Zwirlein; step-children: Brandi Goode (Sawyer), Kristen Ford, Lawrence Ford, Jr., and Allie Mills; grandchildren: Kaylee, Kaiden, Adilyn, Bryleigh, Kolson, Tucker, Maverick, and Sabrina; and his siblings, Robert Smith (Lisa) and Amy Brantley (Jamie). The family will receive friends for a time of visitation at Brantley Funeral Home on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 12-2 pm with a memorial service to begin at 2:00 pm. Following the services at Brantley, there will be a Celebration of Life gathering at the VFW in Southaven.
