Mary Alice Bergstrom, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 17, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on August 16, 1939, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Hobart and Dorothy Waggener, Mary’s life was a testament to her deep faith, love for family, and dedication to her passions.
A devoted Christian, Mary loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and remained a faithful member of Forest Hill Church of Christ, where she found community, support, and strength throughout her life.
After graduating from high school, Mary moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where she embraced life as a Navy wife, faithfully managing the home front while her husband served at sea. A talented seamstress, she enjoyed sewing and creating clothes for her children, always ensuring they were dressed with love and care.
Mary had a deep love for the mountains and traveling. She enjoyed exploring beautiful places and traveled all over the world. She also had a keen interest in politics. One of her proudest accomplishments was visiting every presidential library in the United States, reflecting her lifelong passion for history and government.
Her greatest passion, however, was genealogy. She dedicated countless hours to researching her family’s history, tracing her roots back to the 1600s. Mary was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Great Dames, sharing her passion for heritage and history with others.
Mary’s legacy is one of unwavering faith, love for family, and a curious mind. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
She was preceded in death by her son, Alan Robert Truitt; her parents, Hobart and Dorthy Waggener, and two siblings, Franklin Waggener and Carolyn Allbright.
Mary leaves behind her husband, Robert Bergstrom; two children, June Truitt Holt (Steve), William Gene Truitt, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Andrea Truitt; four grandchildren: Chelsea Vickery (Keith), Carter Moore, Sophia Truitt, Kyle Truitt, and two great grandchildren, Fiona Vickery and Oliver Vickery.
