I’m so grateful for the 36 years we got. I’ll miss you always. 

Matt and I were roommates for a few years at one point. During those times, we became super close and he was one of my closest friends for several years after. He was so caring and loving to his family and friends. I moved away for 5 years and didn’t get to physically reconnect and hug him after coming back to Memphis last year, but I REALLY wish I had. He was an energy that you don’t find everywhere. I will continue to miss him!

Matt liked to hit things to make them work. Often times, it would be successful. That's why he kept doing it.Matt was more than that, of course. It's just funny and a good place to start, I think.
I met Matt when I was 13ish. I had a crush on him.I was DENIED.  It's ok, though. We stayed friends and I was happy for that. Tommy and I also became really good friends, so it was easy to main the friendships. 
Of course everyone drifted apart at some point, but wait a sec, here we have social media!It's easier to keep in touch with people.At some point, I entered into a very difficult time in my life. I was sick a lot. My  3 yr old violently autistic child was physically lashing out on me daily. a lot of people backed away. Matt didn't. He stepped forward. He didn't judge my child or question my parenting. He actually understood my child and praised my parenting. You see, Matt didn't like seeing the people he cared about hurting. He would want to help them even if only to get them to smile or laugh. He was there for me EVERY DAY. We could talk on the phone for hours. It was easy. It's just like that with some people in life and he was one of those people for me. I loved him very much and he never said it, but i know that he loved me. Matt struggled a lot internally. He didn't like talking about that. I wanted to be there for him the way he was with me. He told me not to. He didn't think he was worth it. A lot of people tried.Over time, he and I became estranged.I'm not going to sit here and act like I was there at the end because I wasn't. It kills me, but none of that matters. That is MY struggle, MY burden to bear. HE'S not struggling anymore. That is what is most important. All the hard feelings and memories..they dont matter.All that really matters is love.The love we have for him and the love he has for us.The laughter. His freedom.
