Michael Caris Malone, our beloved father and friend, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. He was born on August 19, 1948, to Johnnie and Adelle Malone. He is preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother Johnny Wayne Malone.
Mike is survived by his two children, Stephanie Elkins, Josh Malone (Angel), and five beautiful grandchildren, Meredith, Abby, Chloe, Lucas, and Brylee whom he loved deeply.
Mike proudly served his country as a member of the Army in Vietnam from 1967-1970. He came back from Vietnam and worked hard to make a living for he and his family. Mike moved his family to Byhalia in 1979, and the homeplace is still in the family today. He loved to raise cattle and put a garden in every summer. He loved to hunt and fish. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Over the years, Mike worked at Caterpillar, in construction, ran a family-owned grocery store, and owned his own appliance business. He ended his career after many years rising through the ranks at the United States Postal Service. He proudly retired as Postmaster in 2011 from the Byhalia Post Office to live at Sardis Lake to watch westerns and fish his remaining days.
To know Mike, was to love him. He was rough and tough on the outside but had a heart of gold on the inside. He was our dad, grandad, best friend, superhero, advisor, confidant, provider, protecter, the one that gave a good kick in the butt when it was needed, the one that loved and led his family so well.
We laid our dad to rest on Friday May 16, 2025, at Pine Grove Cemetery in Nettleton, MS with a small family graveside service.
On Saturday May 31, 2025, we want to invite all family and friends that knew and loved Mike to come and celebrate him – this is what he would have wanted! We will have a Celebration of Life for him from 4:00-7:00pm at Emory Methodist Church, 872 Watson Road, Byhalia, MS 38611. Please come as you are – it is a Celebration! Dad will receive his military honors at the celebration by the presentation of the flag to his family and the playing of the taps. Dinner from Clancy’s Restaurant in Red Banks will be provided along with a band that will play.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request that you instead please consider making a donation to St. Jude Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. Dad gave to them with so much love in his heart!
