Mysti Nicole Gurley Blackman, 41, went home to be with the Lord on November 11, 2021 at Methodist University in Memphis, TN. Mysti was born on September 26, 1980 in Tupelo, MS. She greeted life with grace no matter what the day delivered. Mysti passed along the gift of: resilience, compassion, forgiveness and how to get up each day and just embrace the day. She was a beautiful force and free spirit. Always kind, always forgiving, always encouraging, and she always saw the good in people. Mysti loved the Lord and was strong in her faith. She loved all animals but especially horses. She rode horses for many years at horse shows. If you saw Mysti, then you saw her older cat “Kitty”, that she carried everywhere. She loved nature and being outdoors. She was a Chef and enjoyed cooking. Mysti’s greatest joy was her daughter, Genevieve. She enjoyed making memories by singing, listening to music, and writing poems. They both enjoyed taking trips to the beach. Mysti leaves behind her daughter, Genevieve Blackman; Genevieve’s father, Evan Blackman; her parents, Robin and Luther Hicks, and Shawn Gurley; three half-sisters, Jessica Batts, Ashley Gurley, and Shawna Gurley; two step-siblings, Amy Dugan and Joseph Hicks, and her grandparents, Robert and Ruth Saigeon. She also leaves behind a host of family and friends who will miss her dearly. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 2:00 pm with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, MS 38654. Burial will follow at Fountain Head Cemetery. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.brantleyfuneral.com for the Blackman family.
