Ricky Dowdy, 68, passed away in his home on October 5, 2019, He was born January 25, 1951. Ricky was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was employed with the Illinois Central/Canadian National Railroad for 38 years. At the age of 20, Ricky was nationally recognized as the youngest train engineer in the country. He later retired in 2008. Ricky was a man of strong faith, believing firmly in the power and strength of Jesus Christ. Ricky is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Penny Dowdy; daughter, Laurie Dowdy; sons Jeff Dowdy (Heather) and Justin McCollum (Natalie) and grandchildren Drew Dowdy, Anna Claire Dowdy and Eli McCollum. Ricky was preceded in death by his parents William and Inez Dowdy and his brother Michael Dowdy.
The family will receive friends and have food and beverage on Saturday, October 12th from 1-2pm at Brantley Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2pm.
