

Robert H. Marr of Olive Branch, MS passed away June 13, 2015. He was born in Memphis on July 4, 1929. He always said the fireworks were for him! His family moved to Olive Branch when he was 7. He graduated from Olive Branch High School in 1947 then attended school at Ole Miss. He entered the Air force in 1950 and served at White Sands, New Mexico and in the Bahamas as a radar technician. While in the Air Force he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal (no surprise there). He was honorably discharged in 1954. He met Doris at a gas station where he pumped gas for her and undoubtedly charmed her with his brown eyes! They were married March 8, 1957 and bought the very first house that they still live in. He wanted a little girl and Robin was born April 23, 1960. He worked for Chrysler/Dodge for 17 years and was chosen in 1966 as Dodges Manager of the Year. He later bought his own business, “O.B. Auto Service” and gradually worked into working as the only Postal Clerk Olive Branch had for 19 years.In 1977 he became an Alderman for the town of Olive Branch. While on the board the B.J. Chain Library was conceived and dedicated. In his second term 2001-2005, the new City hall was built and dedicated, land was purchased for the new courthouse and police facility and the YMCA. He participated in the “Adopt a Street Program” and was a director on the Ole Towne Board. He was the director of the Annual Classic Car and Fly Wheelers Show in Olive Branch. He served as Worthy Patron of Eastern Star several times and received his 50 year pin this week, as well as his 50 year pin with the Masonic lodge. He served as long time Secretary of the Oak grove Masonic Lodge and was a past Master of the Masonic lodge. He was a Shriner and a Knight Templar. He was a charter member of the Civitan Club and chairman of their ‘Candy Box program” that raises money for children with developmental disabilities. He was an active member of the Rotary Club where he received their highest honor – Paul Harris Fellow. He was honored with being the Grand Marshall of the Olive Branch Christmas parade in 2008. The city elected him to the Olive Branch Hall of fame. He was an Elder at Cumberland Presbyterian Church and taught the senior class for several years. And as if he had any time left over – he had hobbies including; classic car restoration, ham radio operation and woodworking in which he made toys and doll furniture for his grandchildren. He leaves behind his wife Doris, daughter Robin Marr Ogden (Glen Ogden) and two grandchildren, Joshua Ogden and Stacy Ogden Day (Christopher Day), four great-granddaughters, Haleigh Ogden, Savannah Ogden, Alyssa Ogden and Caroline Day. He also leaves his sisters, Carolyn Lowery (James) of Winona, MS and Julia Miller (Earl) of Cordova, TN, his brother- in-law Tony Ross and his wife Joyce Ross. He was preceded in death by a sister Mary rivers Richardson and brothers John Gorman Marr and William Gilbert Marr.
