Ruth Busby Owens, 95, born April 25, 1929 in Tate County, MS, received her heart’s desire in being called home to her Lord March 15, 2025 with family by her side. She is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, DeWitt Owens, married May 18, 1947 in Cockrum, MS. She is survived by her daughter Janice Barton (Charles) of Cockrum, sons Billy Owens (Debbie) of Magnolia, TX, Jimmy Owens (Terri) of Tomball, TX and Ray Owens (Jeannie) of Cockrum, as well as 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews whom all adored her. Ruth had a love of life and serving others through her many talents. She most enjoyed and is known by so many through her gifting nature for her crocheted afghans, baking cakes, pies, cookies and her infamous Christmas candies, gardening and canning every known fruit and vegetable, quilting beautiful blankets, growing colorful flower gardens, crafting her drape and dip dolls, taking walks, decorating her home and immaculately ornate tree for Christmas each year in October all for the enjoyment of others. Having her children and grandchildren at her house for holidays and summer breaks made her heart full. She was faithful to her Lord, leading her family by example in her daily time spent in her Bible with a cup of coffee. She was an active member of Cockrum United Methodist Church, attending Bible studies and singing in the choir until she no longer was able. She felt a great accountability for raising her family in a way that exemplified respect and compassion for others. A celebration of life will be held at Brantley Funeral Home on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 11am with visitation from 9am to 11am. Graveside service to follow in Cockrum Community Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Billy Owens, Bobby Long, Steve Simpson, Koley Karl, Nathan Hibler, Ryan Lynch, Shannon Pearson and Warren Lewis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude.
