Sandra Maples Cooper passed away at Methodist Olive Branch Hospital on May 8, 2020. She is preceded in death by her mother, Raylene Mae Maples; her sister, Donna Leigh Maples; and her step-mother, Brenda Maples.
She is survived by her loving husband, Travis; children, Hayley, Dylan (Maggie), and Shelby; and father, Ray.
Sandra also leaves behind a host of friends and loved ones. She was an active member of Looxahoma Church of Christ, where she loved to teach the 2s and 3s class. She also loved to be a part of Vacation Bible School because it gave her an opportunity to love on the children in the community.
Sandra was not only active in the Church, but also active at Jane’s Gym, where she served as a certified spin instructor. She thrived on making other women feel beautiful— both inside and out. She believed that any hard day could be made better with exercise. She was always talking about her ‘girls’ at the gym and how special they were to her.
Sandra, lovingly known as ‘Sunshine’ to her husband, spread sunshine wherever she went. She always wanted people to know how much she loved them, but more importantly, how much God loved them. One of her favorite sayings was “Remember WHO you are, WHOSE you are, and WHO made you.”
Sandra’s husband and children were her life. She exemplified Christ in her role as a wife and mother. She loved her family fiercely and strived to have a home that was centered around Christ. She loved creating new traditions with them, while being sure to include anyone who happened to be in her home at the time.
Sandra was an includer. She never wanted anyone to feel left out. Sandra had a way of making friends with anyone and everyone. It didn’t matter who you were, Sandra was in your ‘corner.’
To say that Sandra will be missed is a gross understatement. There is now a hole in the world that no one else’s presence will ever be able to fill. If Sandra could talk to us right now, she would say to not be sad that’s she’s not here because she has crossed the finish line and received her reward. She would be more worried about you and the condition of your soul. She would want to know if you were sure of your salvation. She would want to make sure you were included in God’s Book of Life.
