Konrad served in the United States Army from February 29, 2008, until June 20, 2011. He was trained as a Combat Engineer at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas where he deployed on a year-long tour in Iraq, earning an honorable discharge.
After his service, Konrad pursued welding and earned an Associate Degree. According to Konrad, he was “the greatest welder in the history of mankind" and nobody really argued. His teachers at Job Corps said they had never seen someone more naturally born to weld.
He was secretly a world-class singer, though too shy to ever let most people hear it. Konrad was known for his silliness and his irreverence.
Konrad was predeceased by his mother, Janice McCarty. He is survived by his former wife, Sara De La Cruz; son, Xavier De La Cruz; daughters, Isabella De La Cruz and Josie Staples; his father, Robert Staples; his brother, Max Staples; his sister-in-law, Savera Miller; his nieces and nephew, Kyler Miller, Tariah Staples, and Rowen Staples; and various aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Konrad will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his humor, and the way he left a mark on everyone who knew him.
A visitation for Konrad will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared for the Staples family.
