Born on July 4, 1948, in Buffalo, NY, Diane was a firecracker in her own right, sharing her birthday with America’s celebration of independence—a fitting tribute to her spirited personality. Diane was a woman of faith, holding her beliefs close to her heart, though she'd often joke about being a "bad Catholic." Her life was a tapestry woven with family, friends, and love.
A proud member of an Army family, Diane's life was one of service and compassion. She dedicated many years of her life to the Granville Assisted Living community, where she began as an Activities Director before transitioning to a CNA and ultimately a hospice caregiver. Her work was more than a job; it was a calling, and she was proud of the difference she made in the lives of those she cared for.
On July 4, 1985, Diane married the love of her life, Charles. Together, they dreamed of visiting Hawaii, a trip that she was able fulfill alone. She enjoyed traveling and cherished the smaller day-trips she loved taking with friends. For Diane, it wasn’t the destination but the company that mattered most.
Family was the cornerstone of Diane's life. A proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she reveled in the chaos and joy of family gatherings, especially on her birthday when the fireworks lit up the sky in her honor. She often spoke of her dream to capture a photograph of five generations of her family—a testament to the legacy of love she built.
Diane is survived by her children Kimberly Hill (Glen), Kenneth Schlegel, Kristine Williams (David), Kelli Alferes, Angie Ottum, Charles Brewer, and Tina Brewer. Her grandchildren Erica Tilson, Angela Danielson, Austin Hill, Brian Hill (Megan), Tony Hill (Nicole), Keith Alexander Jr, Christian Alexander (Maria), Alyssa Alexander, Alaina Green (Peyton), Mya Schlegel, Juan Alferes, Jesse Hauser, Emma Brewer, Christina Brewer, and Will Brewer. Her great-grandchildren Xavier, Ashton, and Maisy Hill, Makayla, Riley, and Taylor Tilson, Payton and Jason Alexander, Elianna Green, and Trey Bauer. Her sisters Kathy Moyer, Rebecca Young, Nona Walton (Dennis), and Ruth Knapp (Jim) also carry her memory forward along with several grand-fur babies.
She joins her husband Charles and her parents, Edward and Joan Salunek, in eternal rest.
Known for her spunky and stubborn spirit, Diane brought color and joy to the lives of those around her. Her support for her family was unwavering, and her tradition of singing "Happy Birthday" to loved ones is a sweet memory that will forever echo in their hearts. Her grandkids have fond memories of scavenger hunts at Christmas, fishing, feeding the ducks at the park, swimming, volunteer work, playing dress-up, and movie time with her—adventures that were as much about fun as they were about creating lasting memories.
Diane’s life will be celebrated at Westlawn Hillcrest Funeral Home, located at 5701 Center Street, Omaha, NE. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from 5-7:00 pm, followed by a funeral service on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 10:00 am.
In her passing, we are reminded of the purest love that comes from a mother. Diane’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and an unwavering zest for life—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
