dating back 70 years, died peacefully on Feb. 7, 2022, in Lincoln, Neb. He was 75.
The son of Czecholslovakian immigrants, Frank V. Hulac and Frances C. Hulac, Frank Hulac Jr. was born
in Omaha on Nov. 7, 1946. He grew up in West Omaha and graduated from Westside High School in
1964. Mr. Hulac received a degree in sociology from John F. Kennedy College in Wahoo, Neb., and explored several career paths, including the traditional craft of a farrier, as it was practiced by blacksmiths in his family’s home country, landing him a front-page story in the Omaha World-Herald in the late 1970s.
His grandparents owned a blacksmith business in South Omaha, where Mr. Hulac participated in
gymnastics from a young age at Sokol Hall and enjoyed family dinners of sauerkraut, pork, and dumplings
at the Bohemian Cafe. He eventually went to work for his father’s businesses, including Hulac Chevrolet, which operated in Benson from the mid-1930s to 1970 and at one time was the largest Chevy dealership in the state. The family later established a property management company, Hulac Inc., which Mr. Hulac eventually led until he retired as President in 2000. Mr. Hulac’s real loves were classic rock music, classic cars and motorcycles, animals, and outdoor activities, including duck and pheasant hunting with his yellow lab Dusty, and casting for catfish along the Platte River at Sokol Camp near Waterloo. He also enjoyed working with his hands and created many beautiful welded metal sculptures. He was also an aficionado of Harley-Davidsons, building around a dozen of them from scratch and riding to the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. Mr. Hulac gave back to the community in many ways, particularly by supporting people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction and counseling inmates at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Frances Lancaster. He is survived by: his sister Georgia Hulac of Moscow, Idaho; four daughters, Kari Hulac of Livermore, Calif., Lisa Hulac of Centennial, Colo., Katy Hulac of Aurora, Colo., and Sara Hulac of Lincoln, Neb.; as well as three granddaughters and one grandson; and four nieces and their children. He will be interred in a private ceremony at the Bohemian Cemetery in Omaha.
