

Grace was born to Charles and Belle (Cummins) Burr on January 2nd, 1955 in Omaha, Nebraska. She peacefully passed away on August 23, 2024 in her home in Council Bluffs, lowa. Grace was the second of five children, who were all born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska.
After completing her GED, she continued on with her education and obtained her Bachelors of Nursing degree through Clarkson College as a non-traditional student all while helping raise three young teens. While in nursing school she was a CNA at UNMC hospital and Douglas County Health Care. During her nursing years she worked at University of Nebraska Medical Center in many different areas, Nevada hospital in Iowa, in both acute care and geriatrics, the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, lowa, and Douglas County Health Care in Omaha. Although she had her favorites, each held a special place in her heart. Nursing was very important and satisfying to her. She loved the people she worked with and the patients she met along the way.
Grace married Galen Thies on September 15th, 1984, Together with her children they moved to Omaha, Nebraska to begin their life together. In 1985 Grace's three children were adopted by Galen Thies thus building the Thies clan, as some still call them.
Grace was very into crafting. She loved making anything she saw and determined "she could do that cheaper". She made many favorite items and sold them at multiple craft fairs in Iowa and Nebraska. She would tell you when sewing she could shut the world out even on her worst days. As her family will tell you her hands always had to be doing something. During the summer Grace loved the outdoors and tending to her flower gardens. Some of the places she traveled to were California, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Colorado, however her favorite was when she traveled to central Iowa to be with her sister.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Belle Burr Sr.; brother, Charles Burr Jr., Earl and Ada Thies; granddaughter, Carly Grace Morris, Margaret Bloomer; grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
She is survived by her husband, Galen Thies; daughters, Amber Densitt (Jason), and Brandee Woods; sons, Justun Thies, and Sean Thies; grandchildren, Darius, Jordan, Kayleigh, Deion, and Delaynee; brother, John Burr (Katie); sisters, Cindy Grismore, Barb Coleman (Tom); aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 3-4 pm with Funeral Service at 4 pm, and Interment to follow, all at Westlawn-Hillcrest. A Celebration of Life will follow at Stocks n Bonds, 8528 Park Dr., Omaha, NE 68127.
