Jim was born in Omaha, NE on 9/5/1945 to Catherine "Jean" Garrett. He was later adopted by Louis Garrett. He and his parents lived in the home of his maternal grandparents, James "Wilke" and Edna Adams. Jim continued to live in this house in North Omaha until his sudden passing on 7/11/2023.
Jim graduated from North High School in 1964 and from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1968 with a BS in Sociology. After graduation Jim found employment with Omaha Aksarben Horse Race Track. He worked there for several years. He later found employment with the Nebraska Department of Labor in 1972. He retired in 1996, at age 50. After his retirement, Jim selflessly spent his years caring for his family members and close friends. Jim was a good friend to several of his coworkers and will be missed for a very long time to come.
Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wilke & Edna Adams; and his parents, Jean, and Louis.
Funeral Service will be held at Westlawn-Hillcrest Mausoleum at 5701 Center St, Omaha, NE on August 11, 2023 at 1:30 PM. Burial will be at Westlawn-Hillcrest Cemetery after the services.
