Jan Staley was born in Washington D.C., the middle child and only daughter of Walter and Pauline (Pelton) Staley. She grew up in Omaha along with big brothers Larry and Joe, younger brothers Jim and Terry.
Jan attended Walnut Hill elementary and Benson High School, graduating with the “Mighty Bunnies” class of 1959.
Jan married Jim Havenridge, and although they eventually divorced, God blessed them with four sons; Terry, Christopher, Rick, and Joel. Jan liked to brag about her boys, her brothers, and her grandchildren.
The boys confirm that times were sometimes lean, but Jan managed to find a way to get the family through, and the boys childhood was fun. They recall games of hide-and-seek and kick-the-can, board games, occasional trips to swim and camp at Fremont Lakes, and the usual neighborhood shenanigans.
Jan retired as a medical records clerk with Nebraska Med in 2009. She was proud to be able to live out her years in her own apartment in Camelot. As medical conditions worsened over the years Jan didn’t socialize as much, but she was always grateful for her wonderful neighbors and Jan’s family thanks them for keeping a watchful eye on her during these years.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Pauline, her brothers Joe and Jim Staley, and Joe’s wife Alice Staley.
Survivors include her sons: Terry (Mary) Havenridge of Council Bluffs IA, Christopher (Tina) Havenridge of Oklahoma City OK, Rick (Patsy) Havenridge of Springfield NE and Joel (Caryn) Havenridge of Omaha: Brothers Larry (Linda) Staley, and Terry (Leelama) Staley.
‘Gramma Jan’ had 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren: Aunt Jan had many nieces and nephews: and many wonderful friends.
