

Colonel Louis M. Andersen, 87 passed away peacefully September 28, 2017 following a long illness. He is predeceased by his parents, Louis M. and Mabel Andersen, lifelong residents of Omaha. Lou graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, the first in his family to graduate college. After graduation he joined the U.S Air Force assigned to a B45 wing in the United Kingdom. Lou then joined the U.S. Secret Service in the Eisenhower administration. Later, he rejoined the U.S. Air Force where he completed his military career. Lou, Barbara and their three children traveled extensively across the United States, always driving to a new base in order to experience the beauty of the United States. After retiring from the Air Force in 1977, Lou returned to his beloved Omaha in the positon of chief of staff to the Omaha City Council, a position he would hold for twenty-five years. Lou was a life-long member of Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, where he was married and where his son Lou and two granddaughters were also married. Lou was a sweet, funny man and a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He valued family and God above all. He touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed. Lou is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Andersen; his twin sons Louis (Anne) Andersen of Omaha and James Andersen of St. Louis; and his daughter Linda (Graham) McIntyre of Lake Anna, Virginia, along with a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
VISITATION Sunday, Oct. 1 from 5pm to 7pm at Westlawn-Hillcrest. FUNERAL SERVICE Monday, Oct. 2 at 10am at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church, 2650 Farnam St. Omaha, NE, with burial to follow at Westlawn-Hillcrest. Memorials suggested to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
