Mary’s story began the simplicity and strength of rural Nebraska, where she attended a rural schoolhouse. In those early days. She and her siblings traveled by horse and wagon - an image as timeless as the values instilled in her: hard work, humility, and deep familial love. The family moved to Omaha in the mid 50s and she attended Holy Ghost, South HS and later pursued her passion at Capital Beauty School.
Mary worked at Brandeis, Younkers, and JCPenny salons, with scissors in hand and laughter never far behind, she offered more than beauty service; she offered belonging. She was, at her core, a nurturer. Her smile carried a spark, her eyes a mischievous twinkle, and her wit a delightful sass. She loved gatherings, celebrations, and any chance to raise a glass of white wine -always with ice- and toast to life itself.
Guided by a shared love of music, theater, travel and vibrant zest for life, Mary joined her heart with Alvin Krist in marriage 1962. Together they built a rich life in love and adventure, welcoming their twin sons Jeff and Jason in 1969. Their home was filled with laughter, energy, and the steady rhythm of family life. Whether it was a weekend camping trip, or a summer getaway, Mary embraced every opportunity to create memories.
In their later years, Mary and Al found joy wintering in Arizona, savoring both the sunshine and the ever-growing circle of family around them.
Her devotion to Alvin was perhaps most evident during his decade long battle with Parkinson’s disease. With grace, strength, and boundless compassion, Mary became his caregiver, standing steadfastly by his side. Her care was not simply an act of duty - it was a profound expression of love that had defined their life together.
A woman of deep abiding faith, Mary remained rooted in her Catholic beliefs throughout her life. That faith became her anchor during her own battle with lung cancer, sustaining her with courage and peace even in the face of great physical trials.
As the last surviving of eleven children, Mary carried forward a remarkable legacy, reaching her 83rd birthday with gratitude and reflection. Even in her final days, she remained mindful of the many loved ones who had gone before her, holding them close in memory.
