Mary L Vanderveen

of Omaha, Nebraska passed away on July 30, 2016.

Born to Patrick and Mildred Finlan in Pineridge, Michigan

on June 16, 1938, though her birth certificate indicates June 17!

Mary married Larry VanderVeen on April 1, 1973 after an 11

year courtship, and enjoyed life with him until Larry’s

passing on June 5, 1984.

"Little Mary" waitressed at The Bohemian Cafe for more than

40 years, and, yes, was awarded "Ms. Congeniality" by the

Nebraska Restaurant Association in 1972.

She expected people to be happy, and she accepted every member of her family,

no matter what; she always took care of nature and animals, as well as other strays

(mostly human) along the way!

She is survived by daughters, Kathy Helms (and Mike), Connie Landers (and Chris),

Cynthia Henderson (and Bob); grandchildren, Michael Helms, Kimberly Duvall (and Ben),

Crystal Landers, Heather Brandon (and Ron), Patrick Chittick (and Gail), Robert and

Sean Henderson; Great Grandchildren,Venesia, Velicia and Vecenia Landers,

Dillon, Eric, Victoria, Connor and Vivian Brandon, Kaleb, Seth and London Chittick;

Siblings, Bill, Pat, Mike, Roger Finlan, Della Vadnais, Kay Bergstrom, Carol Godfrey,

Susan Tellosco, and many other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Preceded in death by husband, Larry Joe VanderVeen, Sr., son, Larry Joe VanderVeen, Jr.

and siblings, Rick Finlan, Lorraine Van Effen, Dennis Finlan, and parents Patrick and Mildred Finlan.

Mary’s funeral service will be held at West Lawn

Hillcrest, 5701 Center Street, Omaha, NE.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 4 at 9:00 am, with memorial service

at 10:00 am. Burial will follow the service at Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, Iowa at 12:00 pm.
