

She was born in Cherokee, IA on August 18,1949 to Howard and Margaret Humphrey, and was the youngest child of four, having three older brothers. Ruth attended Wayne State College receiving her teaching degree in 1971. She moved to Omaha and went on to work in the dietetics department at University Nebraska Medical Center in 1972 where she retired after 40 years. Ruth’s son Jonathan was her ray of sunshine, and he kept her busy with all his activities. She especially enjoyed watching him play basketball and baseball at the YMCA. Ruth enjoyed baking cookies for the neighborhood kids, nurturing her flower gardens, reading with a cat on her lap, camping at Ponca State Park, and in her later years watching her grandchildren grow up. One of Ruth's favorite pastimes was watching the Kansas City Royals play, she knew every players name.
Survivors include her beloved son Jonathan (Jessica) Martin and her three precious grandchildren Kyleigh, Owen, and Kayla. She was preceded in death by both her parents and three older brothers, Harold (Margaret), Paul and Donald.
Memorials may be made to the family for a purchase of a Lauritzen Gardens plaque in her honor or the American Diabetes Association
A memorial service for Ruth will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 11:00 am, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4117 Terrace Dr, Omaha, Nebraska 68134 followed by a luncheon in the fellowship hall and Committal at Westlawn Hillcrest Funeral Home at 5701 Center St Omaha, NE 68106.
