Verta Mae Conley was known for her kind heart, helping spirit, and contagious smile. She was born to Street and Laura Conley on September 14, 1931 in Newport, Arkansas. She was the fourth of five children born to this union. Because of working to help support the family, she never had the opportunity to finish high school. Verta later moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she met and married her late husband of 45 years, Charles Collins, Sr. To this union were born five children; Charles Jr., Dallas, Maria Antoinette (died at age 5), Vivyonne, and Ricky. Verta helped raise and support many other children that were not her own. Verta professed faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at an early age and taught her children to do the same. She planted her feet at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in 1950 and stayed faithful, steadfast and solid as a member until her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Street and Laura (Berry) Conley, three brothers, and Willie, Street, Jr., and Amos, her husband, Charles Collins, Sr., and one daughter Maria Antoinette. She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories, one sister Louise James, Omaha, NE; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Conley, Omaha, NE and Della Gill of Kansas City, KS. Three sons, Charles Jr., Omaha, NE; Dallas Collins, Omaha, NE; Ricky Collins (Shela), Omaha, NE; and one daughter Vivyonne Collins-Ewing (John), Omaha, NE. Two daughters-in-law, Shela Collins and Sherry Collins both of Omaha, NE. 9 Grandchildren: Christina, Alexandria, David, Tosha, Sonja, Trey, Megan, Blaine; 15 great grandchildren, a large host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins, her Salem Village Family, and many friends.
