Hartwick- Beverly A.Trong – Miles, nee Forbes, 74, lost her courageous
battle to cancer and Alzheimer’s, with her loving family at her side,
at A.O Fox nursing home, Oneonta, Wednesday December 5, 2012.
Bev was born on November 14, 1938 in Jay, NY to Maxwell and Theresa
(Elliott) Forbes. She married William H. Trong, of Troy, on June 26,
1960, who passed on December 27, 2003. She later married Roy Miles,
of Plant City, Fla. who predeceased her on November 2, 2012.
Bev spent a portion of her childhood in Cherry Valley, where she
graduated from high school and worked at the family restaurant, where
she developed a love for cooking under the wings of her beloved
grandmother.
She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Cooperstown,
where she was also a member of the Women’s Guild. During her time of
participation, she was active in fundraising for the church through
overseeing soup kitchens, rummage sales and craft bazaars.
Following Bev’s first career opportunity as head cook for the Otsego
County jail some time ago, she devoted many valuable and appreciated
years of service to the Office for the Aging as manager for the
Nutrition Program, which provides meals to the elderly and shut-ins.
A familiar face at Bassett Hospital’s ER and admissions desk was where
her career days ended and her retirement began.
Bev was well known and appreciated for the baking she did in the
community throughout her life, as well as her sewing and crafting
skills.
Bev is survived by her brothers Roger, Richard (Mitzi) and Scott
(Jeanette) Forbes. She was predeceased by Rogers’ late wife,
Patricia. She is also survived by her children, sons, William F.
(Holly Kubli) of Nassau, Jeffrey (Kathleen) of East Greenbush, Russell
(Catherine) of Hartwick, Christopher (Lynne) of Burlington Flats and
daughter Hope Trong of Oneonta. Grandchildren Aubrynn, Sarah,
Jessica, Kelsey, Caitlin, Kathleen, James, Andrew, Jacob, Brittany,
Noah, Micaela and Dakota. Great grandchildren Lilianna, Alaina,
Landon and Grayson. As well as several nieces and nephews.
At our mother’s request, there will not be a traditional funeral
service or calling hours. The family will hold a private memorial
service at a later date.
We would like to thank the dedicated staff of Catskill Area Hospice
and A.O. Fox Nursing Home for their involvement, care and support, not
only to our mother, but the immediate family as well.
Memorial donations may be made and greatly appreciated, in Bev’s
honor, to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood
Drive, Oneonta N.Y. 13820.
