Rick was born in London, England, on January 20, 1946, to his parents Frederick and Sheila (Lack) Wiedeman. His parents met during World War 2, as Frederick was stationed in England during that time. They fell in love and were married and had their first born child while in London. Shortly after, while Rick was less than a year old, he and his mom boarded a military hospital ship across the Atlantic. As a military wife, she and her son Rick were escorted by the military to Oneonta. After settling in Oneonta, NY, his parents went on to have 5 more children.
Rick was always a hardworking man throughout his life. He was raised in an era where you had to get through the tough times, but always support your family. Rick worked as a custodian for Oneonta Auxiliary Services and Sodexo at SUNY Oneonta from 1969-2014 before he retired. He liked his work and enjoyed making many friends and telling great jokes with them. Rick was a huge jokester, and always had the ability to make you laugh.
Rick didn't worry about the intricacies of society and was content with keeping it simple. He was very meticulous in all of his life's work, not matter how big or small. He took pride in his surroundings and began many collections of interest including: arrow heads, old coins, brass figurines, and a collection of vintage items that reminded him of his childhood. Rick was always interested in old cars, and could name the year, make and model of any car he saw driving down the road that was between the years of the 50's and 70's.
In 1975, Rick met the love of his life, Mary Giardina, and they married in Oneonta, NY on April 16, 1977. They went on to have two Children, Gaetano "Guy" Wiedeman and Frances "Fran" Wiedeman of Oneonta. Rick took great pride in his family and they enjoyed taking many trips together. The family would travel to Lake George, NY, every year as a summertime family tradition.
Rick was predeceased by his brother, Robert A. Wiedeman in the Vietnam War; his parents Frederick and Sheila Wiedeman; his sister Susan Pizza; and his wife Mary Wiedeman all of Oneonta.
He is survived by his son, Gaetano (Francesca) Wiedeman and their children Evan and Chase; daughter Frances Wiedeman and her children Mateo and Maria; sister Barb (Bob) Purcell of Florida; his sister Janet (Mike) Parent of Otego; and his brother Steven (Pam) Wiedeman of Otego; along with many nieces and nephews.
