Catherine graduated at the age of sixteen from Catholic High School in Troy, receiving a Regents diploma. Shortly thereafter, Catherine was employed at General Electric in Schenectady in the payroll department.
On October 2, 1948, Catherine married Wayne J. Andrews at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Troy. They were married for fifty-two and a half years. They had five children: Wayne, Jr.; Peter; Brian; Christine and Catherine, Jr..
Catherine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. In Catherine’s 83 years on this Earth she made life more wonderful for everyone who knew her – Catherine was a beautiful person. Catherine was a devout Catholic and her faith was a driving force in words and actions and in all that she did.
Catherine enjoyed crocheting and was a published author and designer of many patterns that she had created in such magazines as Crochet World; Crochet & Knitting Designs and numerous other magazines. Other interests were traveling, reading and volunteering. Catherine volunteered for the Caring Neighbors program: She was a friendly visitor and fundraiser for the Celtic Fests; a Hospitality volunteer at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and a fundraiser for the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association, respectively. In her teenage years, Catherine volunteered with the Sisters of Mercy in Troy.
Notably, Catherine was the first employee of Sissy’s Little Lamb’s Daycare. Catherine had a special way with all children. She loved her “extended Daycare family” – The children, parents, staff and owner, Erica Barbaras.
