Elise was born on July 26, 1917, the daughter of Vyrle A. and Lois (Fennell) Young. She married her second husband, Albert J. Fortin, Jr. on November 10, 1951 and he predeceased her on February 8, 2003.
Elise was a graduate of Oneonta High School, and lived most of her life in Oneonta.
Up until six years ago, Elise was a member of Sue McDonough’s “Young at Heart Dance Group”, and was part of the team which did recital reviews and visited various sites to perform their fancy routines.
Elise enjoyed her hobby of painting, and many of her works of art are displayed in various rooms of her home.
Elise and her husband were the owners of the former F&F Airpark, and she, her husband, and her son, James were licensed pilots. They ran the Airpark as a professional, fun place to learn to fly and enjoy the friendship and warmth of a family atmosphere. Several years ago, they sold the property to the Town of Oneonta with the stipulation it remained as a park.
In later years, as the property became Fortin Park, one of Elise’s favorite things to do was to travel through the park with her trusty dog, Rip riding on the passenger seat of her golf cart. She loved to watch all of the activities and events hosted at the park, including watching the cross country runners as they passed her home, and the dogs that brought their owners to the park. Taz, Wyatt, Buford, Muzzy and many other dogs came to her house to visit Rip, and receive a treat from Elise.
Also in earlier years, Elise loved walking the property in search for edible mushrooms, as well as identifying a myriad of wild flowers growing there.
Elise travelled to several states, from Florida to California, as well as touring Spain with her friends.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Joyce Catella Pattengill; two grandchildren, Vikki Pattengill Cates, and Eric J. Pattengill.
Besides her husband, Albert, she was predeceased by her son James Pattengill in 1978.
Elise was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend.
There will be no calling hours.
A service to celebrate her life will be held later at the grove in Fortin Park.
The family would like to especially thank Bassett Home Health Care nurse, Amy Ridgeway for her loving care.
We love you Elise, and will miss you. You will always be in our hearts
