

She was born December 24, 1921 in Manhattan, the daughter of Vincent and Josephine (Maietta) Marretti. She married Salvatore Petronio on June 24, 1948. He predeceased her on July 29, 1977.
Growing up in Brooklyn, Eva graduated from high school in 1939. After graduation she began working for American News Company in New York City as a payroll clerk.
In early 1951 she and her husband moved to Oneonta and opened Sew & Save Fabrics. For almost 40 years, even after her husband’s passing in 1977, Eva operated Sew & Save until retiring in 1989.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Italian American Club, and volunteered for over 20 years with Catskill Area Hospice.
Eva is survived by her daughter, Grace P. Lucas of Albany; 2 grandchildren, Rachel Lucas (Corey Toushin) of Henderson, NV, and Mark Lucas (Joline) of Clifton Park; 2 great grandchildren, Preston Noble Lucas & Eva Grace Lucas; and several nieces & nephews.
She was also predeceased by a daughter, Josephine Petronio; a son Vincent Petronio; and all her siblings, Mary Paino (Peter), Ralph Marretti (Stella), Elia Marretti (Dora), Angela Petronio (Marco), Anthony Marretti (Jenny) and Louise Guarisco (Michael).
A funeral mass will be offered on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 10:15 am in St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta with the Rev. David Mickiewicz, officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 from 4 to 7 PM at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta at which time the family will be in attendance.
