He was born March 4, 1943 in Hummel Wharf, PA the son of the late Adelbert James and Laura (Mauer) Hungerford.
Following High School, Fred went to the N.Y. State Police Academy and became a New York State Trooper in 1965 until his retirement in 1985.
Fred was a member of the Oneonta American Legion, the N.R.A., the B.P.O.E. and the Leatherstocking Chapter of Retired N.Y. State Troopers.
Fred is survived by his son, Wade (Robin) Hungerford; son-in-law, Jeff Dahlinghaus; grandchildren, Dana and Troy Hungerford and Ryan Dahlinghaus; step-children, Micki Ward and Billy (Sonya) Patton; sisters, Barbara (Michael) Leonard and Adele (James) Beale. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kim Dahlinghaus and wife, Barbara Joan Simmons-Hungerford.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta. Frederick’s family will host a gathering at his hunting camp on Franklin Mountain (Rich Road) immediately following the calling hours.
