John R. Miskell

He was born on September 21, 1929 in Oneonta, the son of the late John and Pearl (Eldred) Miskell. He was married to Mary Jackson.

For a number of years, John and his wife operated a snack shop in Oneonta’s West End. Prior to that, he worked for the D & H Railroad at the roundhouse, and also had a bakery route in Delaware and Otsego County.

John will be remembered as one of the best poker players in Otsego and Delaware Counties.

He attended River Street Baptist Church for more than 30 years and was a lifetime member of the Oneonta Eagles, where he served as Chaplin.

John is survived by his wife, Mary Miskell of Oneonta; his children, John (Darlene) Miskell of Maryland, Jacqui Neeley of Schenectady, Robert (Vickie) Miskell of Oneonta, and Patrick Miskell and his partner, Wendy Grissel of Oneonta.

He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousin.

John was predeceased by his son, Michael Miskell.

According to John’s wishes, there will be no formal calling hours or funeral service.
