
Lillian A. Krouse, affectionately known as “Lilly,” passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026 at AO Fox Hospital, Oneonta, leaving behind a life defined by learning, service, and deep love for her family and community.
She was born on November 21, 1934 in NYC. A graduate of Glens Falls High School, Lillian went on to attend Russell Sage College in Troy where she majored in languages.
Lillian worked for 25 years as a librarian assistant for various Endicott schools and later served as a substitute language teacher for three years at Union Endicott High School.
Her commitment to service extended to her church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and faithfully served as financial secretary and treasurer.
She found great joy in sailing on Cayuga Lake in Ithaca, New York, RV camping at Myers Park, and playing bridge. A lifelong lover of books, Lillian enjoyed visiting libraries and reading whenever she could. She also had a tender heart for animals and lovingly cared for many adopted shelter pets throughout her life.
Lillian resided at the Heritage at the Plains for her last 3 years. Her family is grateful for their loving and caring support.
Lillian is survived by her children Cynthia (Jeff) Haslun of Richmondville, New York; Matthew Krouse of Corpus Christi, Texas; and Jennifer Krouse of Scarborough, Maine. She is also survived by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and her sister, Linda Ouhadi of Ballston Lake, New York.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lottie and Heinz Arndt, and by her beloved husband, Daniel R. Krouse, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an animal shelter of one’s choice.
Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY.
Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta, NY.
