Dolly was born December 6, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Grace and Peter Shepherd.
Dolly moved from Brooklyn to Eaton, NY in 1947. She married Wallace Fraser July 3, 1948. He died December 4, 1959.
She worked at Oneida Ltd. in the sales department. In 1952 Dolly became a Rebekah of Lodge 158 in Eaton and ended being a Past Noble Grand.
Dolly married Russell Young in 1961 and moved to Eatonbrook Reservoir in 1962. Together they owned and operated the Sunoco gas station in Eaton, NY for many years. Russell and Dolly enjoyed fishing on Eatonbrook Reservoir and going to Canada on fishing vacations. They had many fun times at Vernon Downs and the Saratoga racetrack. Russell died July 8, 2000.
After his death, Dolly sold the farm and moved to Oneonta. With the move, she was joined by her canine companion, Penny. They were very dedicated to each other over the years.
Dolly was a very generous person. An article was written in the MidYork Weekly how she knitted over 1000 booties and donated them to area hospitals. After she moved to Oneonta, she knitted lap blankets and donated them to pediatric wards and nursing homes in over three counties.
Dolly was a thoughtful lady. She never forgot a friends special occasion. She always remembered them by sending a card even as far away as Scotland and England.
Dolly is survived by her daughter Carol Chesser and husband Doug of Oneonta, her son Stephen Fraser of Rochester. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Ginger Volpe and her husband Fred of Oneonta; grandson Geoffrey Chesser and his wife Jennifer of Oneonta; and grandson Christopher Fraser of Rochester.
