He was born February 3, 1942, in Westport, MA, son of the late Raymond and Helen (Charron) Mitchell.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Mitch owned and operated Rescue 24 Road Service and Mitch’s Auto Repair in Hackensack, NJ during the 1970s and 80s while residing in Paramus, NJ. He was later employed by Handler Real Estate Organization as a senior superintendent for Handler properties before retiring to his 27-acre farm in Butternuts, NY, where he raised livestock and tinkered with his converted farmhouse. Mitch never really retired, though. He spent the last twenty years working in construction as a builder, master carpenter, and foundation specialist, as well as repairing automobiles for his many friends and relatives.
Mitch would help anyone who needed it. He will be remembered by many for his almost superhuman strength and vitality, as well as his irreverent but good-natured humor, colorful storytelling, and love of music, movies, and sports. He was happiest surrounded by friends and family, holding court at his favorite watering holes or the holiday dinner table. One of Mitch’s greatest pleasures was hosting his annual Labor Day pig roast on his farm, playing his brothers, children, and friends in endless games of horseshoes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, June McKenna Mitchell, of Butternuts, NY; his children; Lloyd Milton Mitchell of Unadilla, NY; Laurie Anne Simpson and her husband John of Annandale, NJ; Christopher Schappert and his wife Danielle of Sparta, NJ; his brother Raymond and his wife Chris of Fall River, MA; his sister Sharon Ann Codega and her husband Ronald of Fall River, MA; his brother Robert and his wife Barbara of Franklin, MA; his brother William and his wife Lori of Fall River, MA; his brother Roger of Fall River, MA; his brother-in-law Ron Roberts of Somerset, MA; his brother-in-law David Carvalho of Trumbull, CT; his sister-in-law Maria Beaujour and her husband Tom of Hoboken, NJ; his mother-in-law June Frangipane of Hackensack, NJ; his 9 beloved grandchildren, Lloyd Jr., Kellie-Jean, Thomas, Donna, Dillon, Shannon, Brady, Austin, and Enya; and 1 great-grandson, Brayden. Mitch is also survived by several loving cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as his business partner and dear friend, Janice Incze.
Mitch was predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor Mulligan Mitchell, formerly of Maywood, NJ. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Irma Roberts of Somerset, MA, Nancy Carvalho of Trumbull, CT, and George Charron of Fall River, MA.
