

Minnie M. Huck, 86, of Stamford and formerly of Davenport and Oneonta passed away peacefully Monday, February 11, 2013 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home, Stamford where she had resided since August 2004.
She was born December 8, 1926 in Hobart the daughter of the late Leslie and Hattie (Matthews) McLain. Minnie attended Charlotte Valley, Stamford and South Kortright School. She attended and graduated from the Wilfred Academy in New York City for hairdressing and worked in New York City for a short time.
On October 25, 1949, Minnie married Henry Huck at Tupper Lake, NY. Henry predeceased her on May 5, 1958.
From 1946 to 1951 she worked in the Dietetic Department at Sunmount Tuberculosis Hospital in Tupper Lake.
Following her return to Oneonta, Minnie worked for Charles’ Hair Stylist in Oneonta for three years. She then owned and operated her own beauty shop, Powder Puff Beauty Salon and also Minnie’s Beauty Salon that she operated out of her home.
Minnie was a member of the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, Davenport where for many years she was an elder of the church and belonged to the church’s Women’s Society. She was also a 50 year member of the Charlotte Valley Rebekah Lodge #393 and was appointed as NYS Color Bearer from 1974-1975 by Rebekah Assembly President Isabelle VanDewerker and a Past President of the Anna E. Wilber #4 Ladies Auxiliary Patriot Militant of Oneonta.
Minnie is survived by one sister, Anna N. McCulley of Davenport; one brother, Donald McLain and his wife, Carol of Davenport; one sister-in-law, Charlotte McLain of Florida; nieces and nephews, Jackie and Bill Fingar of Davenport, Bert and Chuck Barringer of Schenevus, Gary and Dawn McCulley of Davenport, Wayne McCulley of Schenevus, Laurie Fingar of Davenport, Carl and Connie McClain of Davenport, Donna Briggs of Davenport, Scott McLain of Texas, Jessie and Eric Thorsland of Maryland, Samantha and Randy Knapp of Mt. Vision and Billy McLain of High Mount; as well as several cousins and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Wallace McLain; brother-in-law, Jack McCulley; nephew, Steve McLain; and cousin, Nellie Whitcomb.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, Davenport with the Reverend Carol Wilson officiating. Burial will be held in the spring in the Evergreen Cemetery, Jefferson. Memorial donations in Minnie’s name may be made to either the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, PO Box 184, Davenport, New York 13750 or to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 116 Main Street, Delhi, New York 13753.
The family would like to thank Nancy and Ralph Beisler and the staff at Hearthstone Adult Home, Hobart for the wonderful care given to Minnie for the two years she lived there. They would also like to thank all the staff at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home and also Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care of Delhi for their care and compassion they gave to Minnie.
