

A devoted Christian, Rich lived a life grounded in faith, service, and deep connection to those around him.
He is survived by his beloved family, including daughters, Dorothy Regazzi of Oneonta, NY, Loretta Small (David) of Kentucky, and Patricia Goodrich (Ken), of Virginia Beach, VA. He was a proud grandfather to Joshua, Seth (Jennifer), Simeon (Jamie), Abigail Clark, Hannah Schultze (Steven), Ben Small, Christine, and Kenneth Goodrich. Rich was also blessed with many great-grandchildren: Anna Clark, John Cortese, Eveline Gibbon, Gabriel Clark, Micah Clark, Isaac Vollkommer, Clara Clark, Emmett Clark, Mylah Vollkommer, and Soren Clark. He is also survived by extended family, Jay Clark.
Rich was predeceased by his parents, Hilma and John Benz; his brother and sister in law Ken and Julie Benz; and his beloved wife, Ann Benz, with whom he shared 58 wonderful years of marriage; and grandson, Ezra Clark (stillborn).
He also leaves behind many dear friends.
Rich was employed by Airborne Instruments Laboratory and eventually owned and operated Lin-Ann Homes, a construction company, building modular and stick-built homes. Throughout his life, Rich was actively involved in his community and took part in many organizations, including Pindars Corners Fire Department and Paramedics, Walton EMT services, First United Methodist Church, Oneonta. He also enjoyed membership in a Lutheran church on Long Island. His faith was an important part of his life, and he contributed to church efforts such as building a school during a mission trip. He was an honorably discharged Marine serving during the Korean War. After retirement, he had a sharpening business until his health declined.
Rich had a deep love for the outdoors and adventure. He enjoyed swimming, golfing, fishing, traveling, hunting, camping, bike riding, and hiking. He also found joy in zip lining, landscaping, riding in his convertible Mustang, cooking for family gatherings, hosting barbecues, and lending a hand wherever needed. Above all, he cherished time spent with family and friends, creating lasting memories.

Rich will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the steady presence he brought into the lives of all who knew him. His legacy lives on through his family and the many lives he touched. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 from 1 to 4 pm at 38 Benz Road, Oneonta, NY 13820.
Rich will be laid to rest in Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin, on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 1:30 PM.
