Richard G. Smith

He was born December 13, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Robert and Winifred (Kelly) Smith.

Richie happily retired to Oneonta from the New York Daily News.

In his free time, Richie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and supporting the NYS Department of Education. He was a beloved father to many and always followed the road less traveled and lived a most unordinary life.

Richard is survived by his three daughters, Laura Smith, Arlynn Smith and Lyla Bonnici and her husband, Peter; four grandchildren, Brittany Smith, Isabella, Sophia and Louis Bonnici; one sister, Diane McGovern of Queens; and one brother, Robert Smith of Long Island; as well as several nephews.

A funeral mass at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 10:15 am with Reverend David Mickiewicz officiating. Immediately following there will be a reception at the 6th Ward Athletic Club. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, New York 13820 in loving memory of Richard G. “Richie” Smith.
