She was raised in East Islip, Long Island and attended school there. Following graduation from high school, Roberta began a long career in banking. It was at work that she first saw Norm, and knew immediately that she would marry him. Roberta and Norman were united in marriage on February 25, 1956 and shared 64 years together before his passing on January 6, 2021.
Roberta's greatest passions were her roles as a wife and mother. Once the youngest children were in school, she worked part-time as a bank teller, always making sure she was home when school was over. The family moved to the Oneonta area from Long Island in the 70s and it wasn't long after her arrival in town that Roberta began working in banking again. She worked for and retired from Wilber National Bank, Oneonta. She volunteered for several organizations over the years, including the A.O. Fox Hospital Auxiliary, The Lord's Table, Saturday's Bread, and many events at her church.
Roberta is survived by four daughters and their families, Margaret Argo (Robert), of Oneonta; Laura Anderson, of Sacramento, CA; Ingrid VanDenAbbeele (Mark), of Westminster, CO; and Norma Anderson, of Bridgewater, MA. She also leaves seven, cherished grandchildren: Gabrielle, Robert, Isabelle, Andrew, Sigrid, Simon, and Linneah. She is further survived by brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Norman; her parents; her son, Howard, and daughter, Jennifer; brothers Kenneth and George, and many extended family members.
Roberta loved flowers and plants and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed the fresh floral bouquets that were brought to her each week for the past few years. She tended to her plants and took pride in seeing how much her visitors enjoyed her "indoor window garden." Roberta firmly believed that flowers are for the living and requested no flowers at the time of her passing.
Anyone wishing to make a donation in Roberta's memory may do so to the First Presbyterian Church, 296 Main Street, Oneonta, NY.
A memorial service for both Roberta and Norman will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.
